Update 01/16/2010: Flynn will be going to Ireland after all, but he needs to wait 6 months in order to have the necessary immunizations. His owner is looking for a foster home where he could stay while waiting to be eligible for travel. Flynn was recently diagnosed with a corneal ulcer, which requires regular treatment with eye drops. If you would be willing to have this sweet old fellow as a guest for a few months, please contact us

Flynn needs an adoptive or foster home by the end of January
This handsome, good natured fellow is Flynn. He is loving and gentle — the kind of dog that makes us fall in love with dogs. We is a well-loved fellow who might have relocated to Ireland with his owner if not for the stress of the travel and the 6 months of quarantine in a government kennel. We agree that it would be less stressful to adapt to a new home here, but his owner is leaving at the end of the month, so he needs to find an adoptive or foster home soon.

Flynn adores the beach, the lake and the river, anywhere that he can run and gambol freely and get wet.
Flynn is 11 years old. He is deaf, but is aware of some sounds. He compensates by carefully watching his people for instructions, and staying close by. He is a well mannered fellow who understands that a wagging finger and a frown indicate he should not do something. He rarely needs this. His owner reports that Flynn does best with structure… He is very aware of the time of day and needs to know that his needs will be met on a rhythmic schedule. He knows when it is time for the morning, afternoon and night walk, and he knows that he can expect food when we return from the morning and afternoon constitutional. The transition to a new home and a new schedule may be a bit upsetting, but he should settle into a new routing quickly.
Flynn doesn’t play with toys. He is friendly with other dogs, but does not wrestle or play chase with them. He loves to be lovingly banged and patted with human hands about his shoulders, have his head roughed and his snout rubbed, to have his chest and back scratched, ears rubbed, and to be pushed playfully to a welcome tummy and chest rub by a human on all fours.

Flynn is patient and loving toward children. His owner reports that he allows her six-year-old granddaughter to dress him up in hats and scarves, and allows her nearly one-year-old grandson to discover what touch is appropriate and what is not for a dog. He has never snapped at either of them, nor shown any aggression toward any adult or any other animal. He loves to socialize with dogs encountered dogs on walks, and always welcomes the attention he naturally draws from children wherever he goes. He would make a wonderful therapy dog for children,

Flynn is a good sport. He doesn't mind playing dress up with owner's grandchildren.
Flynn is at a healthy weight now, but must not be allowed to free feed. His meals need to be on a schedule, and he needs regular exercise to keep him in shape. He has been very healthy, but is currently being treated for a corneal ulcer. He is a much-loved fellow, and we are anxious to find another loving home for him to spend his golden years. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Flynn, please fill out a foster or adoption inquiry, or contact us for more information.

Dalmatian Rescue of Puget Sound is looking for volunteers in the Seattle area, and throughout Washington State, Oregon and Idaho, who are willing to provide foster or adoptive homes to Dalmatians in need. We also need volunteers to help with transportation, and to work with shelters to identify and evaluate at risk dogs. Please
